Laser Therapy Part I: Consumers want to know…

by Dr. Karen Cann on October 3, 2012

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)
also known as cold laser therapy is used to treat certain conditions, to treat
tissue that has been injured or to accelerate healing on wounds and scars, acne
or fungus. LLLT can also be used to emulsify fat in the treatment of cellulite.
LLLT speeds up the healing process enabling the individual to return to a more
functional lifestyle and have a better quality of life again. For athletes,
back on the court/field faster.

What is a TRUE Laser?
The Erchonia Laser is a TRUE LASER.

LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification
by stimulated Emission of Radiation. Light created in this way, is then
culminated and directed into an intense beam of coherent light through the use
of cathode and anode reflecting components in order to produce a single stable
frequency. According to Webster’s Dictionary, Lasers are coherent or marked by
logical consistency.

The
Erchonia laser meets all the scientifically defined attributes of a laser and
is therefore classified as a TRUE laser.
Erchonia assures and maintains this classification, through their unique
and patented process, which produces the emission of coherent light, generated
at a precise and stable frequency, and in a focused direction.

Erchonia’s lasers made history by
becoming the first cold laser to receive a 501K FDA market clearance for
the treatment of chronic pain, proven through two double blind IRB studies. The
Erchonia Lasers are the most advanced lasers on the market today. Erchonia
Lasers have the ability to program different frequencies into the lasers.

What
is low-level laser?

Unlike
high power lasers that use heat and can destroy tissue over time, low energy
lasers affect the cellular energy of the underlying tissue. Hot lasers have a
thermal effect and have an output of 500 mill watts or above. Cold (or) Low
Level Lasers do not have a thermal affect and have an output below 10milliwatts.

Low
Level Laser Therapy refers to the modality of applying a “low” energy
or “low level” laser to tissue that stimulates cellular processes and
thereby enhancing biochemical reactions. For example, studies show that LLLT
increases ATP production in the mitochondria of the cell. Since more energy is
now available, the cell may utilize this fuel to regenerate, heal and function
or operate more efficiently.

How
does it work?

Simply
put LLLT affects the cells of the body specifically the mitochondria of the
cell that affects ATP and energy production. This regenerates and heals the
tissues of the body at a very fast rate. This acceleration of healing applies
to skin/wound healing, disc/nerve healing, muscular/ligamentous healing and an
overall decrease of inflammation/swelling and pain.
